DAILY SESSION PLAN

Updated September 2007

9:15

Children arrive; parent/carer signs the register.  Children add their name labels  to the daily board.

Child Initiated Play
The children are encouraged to choose independently from the activities that have been provided for them.  This is a part of the session where the children are encouraged to move freely between activities.  They are supported by adults as they try new activities, learn to form relationships and as they share pre-school resourses..

10.15 Tidy-up-Time:
The children are encouraged to help to put the toys back into their correct storage boxes.  They have to work together as a team to achieve this.
10.40 Sitting together and sharing news.
  10.25
Circle Time: Foundation Stage children (3 to 5) – incorporating our letter and number of the week.
Circle Time is used to promote the listening skills of the children and their social use of language.  They are encouraged to introduce themselves to our pre-school Teddy Bear as it is passed around the circle.  They are shown the letter and number of the week and invited to name them.  To further reinforce the number the children may then sing a number rhyme together or perform an action such as clapping or jumping.  The children’s phonological awareness is promoted as they try to associate words to the sound made by the letter.

Circle Time: For the 2-3 year old children
The younger children will return to the smaller room for their own circle time.  They will be encouraged to say their names as the Circle Time Bear is passed around and then we will sing a selection of nursery rhymes together.  This activity will help to develop the children’s social use of language and listening skills.

Refreshment Time
The children sit together to have a drink and something to eat.  They choose from a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables with milk or water to drink..  Good practice routines with regard to hand washing before eating, and sitting down to eat are promoted at this time.  The children are encouraged to say please and thank you.
10.45 Story Time
All of the children enjoy listening to a story together. The children may show items that they have brought in to support the topic at this time.
11.00 Adult led Activities
After story time the children take part in adult led activities.  For activities such as movement to music or playing musical instruments the children stay together. However, for some activities the children are split into age related groups so that individual needs may be met as the children use additional equipment that is not used during mixed age groupings.  We change the days for our split group sessions each term so that all of the children are able to take part in large and small group activities at some point during the academic year.
  11.30
Whole Group Singing
The entire group gathers together to sing a selection of nursery rhymes and topic based songs.time ends and the children all come together to sing a selection of songs.
11.45

Communication, Language and Literacy Groups
The children will be split into age related groups for this activity. The older children who are on the Foundation Stage will be encouraged to listen to and retell familiar stories. They will also be invited to use puppets to make up their own stories and to explore their own experiences. We have a range of large boy and girl puppets for this purpose. They can be used as role models for the children. We also use them to confront issues such as behaviour, self-esteem and discipline.
Our younger children will return to their special smaller room for their own story time session. We plan to use our selection of story sacks and puppets to maintain the interest of the children and further develop their listening and language skills.
